Due to festive season; feel free to drop off any provisions into box at back of church at any time and it will be collected end of month.

 

St. Hilda’s Diocesan Resource Centre – The diocesan library

This centre has an enormous amount of books accumulated from old presbyteries and convents over the years. Anyone who would like to borrow from this vast storehouse or looking for specialist material for study or otherwise is welcome to visit. Volunteers required to; Welcome and meet visitors and help with borrowing resources.

 

Christmas Day Special

For the past few years this event on Christmas Day has attracted families; older people and those who whish to meet others. Doors open 10.00a.m. – 4.30p.m. Methodist hall.

Full Christmas Dinner + soup; buffet; Tea mince pies and chance to watch Queen’s speech. Or just pop in after church for mince pies.

Helpers welcome. For catering purposes let Ellen Walton know by Thurs. 20th Dec. 01434 321242.

Santa needs to know if there are children attending.

 

Alternative Parish Christmas Cards

Instead of sending each other a Christmas card it has been suggested by St. John’s that we sign a parish card and make a cash donation which is then given to a charity the parish supports  i.e. Refugees.

The Politically Correct – Christmas Carol

Away in a Manger; No crib for a bed:

Alert  Social Service and place the child in Care.

 

The Advent Wreath


The wreath helps us reflect on how God has come to us.

The circle is a symbol of both the eternity of God and our calling to eternal life.

The evergreen foliage symbolizes

on-going life;

Holly and red berries symbolize the child in the manger who will suffer and die for us on the cross.

 

1st Candle (purple) The Prophecy Candle or Candle of Hope. God is faithful and will keep His promises (Romans 15:12-13)

 

 

2nd Candle (purple) The Bethlehem Candle or The Candle of Preparation. God kept his promise of a Saviour who would be born. (Luke 3:4-6)

 

3rd Candle (pink) The Shepherd Candle of the Cande of Joy.

The angles sang a message of JOY (Luke 2:7-15).

 

4th Candle (purple) The Angel Candle or the Candle of Love.

The angels announced the good news of a Saviour. (John 3:16-17)

 

5th Candle (white) Christ Candle. Reminding us that Jesus is the spotless Lamb of God. (John 1:29).
