Confession is not dead

Cardinal Vincent Nichols announced that Confession has increased “dramatically” in the Year of Mercy. Pope Francis says: “The Lord never gets tired of forgiving us. It is we who get tired of asking for forgiveness.”

Prayer Novena – Thy Kingdom Come

In response to the call of the Archbishop of Canterbury and Archbishop Sentamu of York, there will be a prayer Novena called Thy Kingdom Come from Ascension Thursday to Pentecost – 8th -15th  May – for the re-evangelisation of Britain.

We have been invited to take part .There are to be 6 Beacon Cathedrals in England as focal points for prayer.  Durham Cathedral is one of these and the final prayer liturgy will be there on Pentecost Sunday 15th May at 7pm.

This is a free event, but for planning purposes tickets do need to be booked through the website: http://thykingdom.co.uk/.

Bishop Seamus is anxious that we are well represented so book your ticket and let us be seen to pray together.

From 8th to 15th there will be prayer spaces set apart in the Cathedral for this intention.  You might be able to visit during that week or pray in your own church communities.  During the Novena a prayer event will be held each day in the Galilee Chapel focusing on the Northern Saints.

Day of Special Prayer for Human Work

O Lord, my God,
Creator and Ruler of the universe,
it is Your
Will that human beings accept the duty
of work.
May the work I do bring growth in this
life
to me
and those I love and help to extend the Kingdom of Christ.
Give all persons work that draws them to You
and to each other in cheerful service.
I unite all my work with the
Sacrifice of Jesus

in the
Mass
that it may be pleasing to You and give You
glory.
I beg Your
Blessing
upon all my efforts.
With Saint
Joseph
as my example and guide,
help me to do the work You have asked
and come to the reward You have prepared.
