Apostleship of Sea – Merciful like the Father

Port Chaplains and ship visitors can sometimes find themselves helping to resolve issues over pay or conditions on a ship, or arrange for the repatriation of a sick or injured seafarer – some of the corporal work of mercy. Why not support them with prayers and donations?

Our Lady of Knock shrine

A vast mosaic containing more than 1.5 million pieces has been unveiled at this shrine in Ireland. It depicts the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1879. At 46ft square, it is one of the largest mosaics of its kind in Europe. Today about 1.25 million people are estimated to visit the shrine every year. A plane load from U.S.A. together with their bishop landed several months ago marking the first flight into Knock airport from the States.

Word of the Week

Every action of our lives touches on some cord that will vibrate in eternity. Sean O’Casey playwright.

The Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross is not only a great testimony

to an inner depth and maturity,

but it is in fact a school for interiority and consolation.

It is also a school for the examination of conscience,

for conversion,

for inner transformation and compassion – not as sentimentality,

as a mere feeling,

but as a disturbing experience that knocks on the door of my heart,

that obliges me to know myself and to become a better person.

Pope Benedict XVI
