Refugee Project

The current situation with the Asylum Seekers

project is that more refugees are being sent by the Govt. to the North

East despite the overall numbers coming into the country being lower.

As a result instead of the average monthly numbers of 2016 being 20/25 people – in Jan 2018 it was 70; This month – Aug. it is 80.

Two years ago the food reserve was one month’s supply.

On Wed. 1st Aug. the volunteers had to leave the centre to purchase more food.

Apart from the Churches Together request for our current food donations there is a shortage of rice and biscuits.

Requests this week for :

suitcases with wheels (to transport belongings);

Sheets; pillows; duvets; towels; rucksacks; trainers for school age children; football boots also; and men/woman’s shoes;

Young men’s trousers; ladies coats/jackets.

5 families were disappointed that the store had run out of these items.

If any of the above can be donated just leave at back of church at any time of the month and be assured it will be brought to centre as soon as practical.

P.S. Have since found rucksacks/sheets in a charity shop..
