Communication and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter The Holy Year of Mercy invites all of us to reflect on the relationship between communication and mercy. The Church, in union with Christ, the living incarnation of the Father of Mercies, is called to practise mercy as the distinctive trait of all that she is and does. What we say and how we say it, our every word and gesture, ought to express God’s compassion, tenderness and forgiveness for all. Love, by its nature, is communication; it leads to openness and sharing. If our hearts and actions are inspired by charity, by divine love, then our communication will be touched by God’s own power.

Statement on the EU Referendum by Catholic Bishops’ Conference Need to pray for guidance of the Holy Spirit; be informed of the arguments on both sides of debate; exercise votes with a view to common good of all. See notice board. Pope Francis reminds us in his address to European Parliament in Strasbourg 2014 “The ideals which shaped this European project were peace, subsidiarity and solidarity – even trade was harnessed to peace in Western Europe. We must keep the sacredness of the human person in decisions on referendum.

Prayer for the Ascension of the Lord
Father in heaven, Our minds were prepared For the coming of your kingdom When you took Christ beyond Our sight so that we might Seek him in his glory. May we follow where he has led And find our hope in his glory, For he is Lord for ever. Amen.
