Thought for the week

A spoonful of honey goes a longer way than a barrelful of vinegar.

St. Francis de Sales

First Sunday of Lent Meditation.

Tempted – Transfigured – Mark 1: 12-15
This year’s theme picks up on the first two gospels of every Lent; the Temptations of Jesus and his Transfiguration. It reminds us of the fact that we live with temptation all the time – but that we are called to transformation or transfiguration.
It is a slow process – it actually takes a whole lifetime – but Lent gives us time to focus on it and do our bit to working with the grace God gives us to become the people God calls us to be.
  • Wilderness
  • Emptiness
  • Dryness
  • Loneliness

Q. Where are the “deserts” – spiritual wildernesses – in our day?

Q. What did the beasts and angels mean for Jesus?

Q. What might our “wild beasts” be? and who might our “angels” be – those who will help to keep us going?

Q. How might we support each other over the weeks ahead?
