A Lenten Reflection  - 12th March 2017

H.B. & Hw.

We look about us. We see signs of new life.

Snowdrop, aconite and columbine abound. The

hard crust of winter is cracking. Let's go with the

flow. Let the seed of life planted in us breathe. It

is renewal time. We renew heart and mind so that

the Christ-life may bloom. As we clear our winter

debris we make the Lord visible. We give new life

and new hope to all around us.

The prophet Joel shows us the way. "Come back to

me with all your heart." (Joel 2.12 - 18) Our prayer

must be all heart. Our fasting and alms deeds must

be all heart. The register is totality, nothing

withheld. God is longing for our whole selves.

This way lies the fullness of life, renewal and the

revelation of the Christ even now.

"Let your hearts be broken, not your garments

torn." (Joel) "Be reconciled to God. . . now is the

favourable time." (2 Cor. 5.20 - 6.12) So Lent is a

heart thing, interior and sincere. The force for

transformation is let loose, "that we might become

the goodness of God." (2 Cor. 5.20) We are Easter

people because we are Lenten people. Our dying is

our rising. This is the present reality which we

embrace wholeheartedly through, with and in our

Lord, Jesus Christ.
